Types and prices of highway vignette

Overview of current types and prices of highway vignette

Types of highway vignettes

Motorway vignettes in the Slovak Republic have an electronic form. It is a fee for using designated sections of motorways and expressways (hereinafter also referred to as "designated road sections"), which is tied to a specific period of time regardless of the distance traveled or the number of trips.

The types of motorway vignettes for using designated road sections are regulated by the provisions of § 2 para. 2 and § 3 of Act No. 488/2013 Coll. on the motorway vignette and amending certain laws in force (hereinafter also referred to as the "Act"), based on which the payment for the motorway vignette is made for a calendar year, for 365 days, for 30 days, or for 10 days, whereby:

- the annual motorway vignette is valid from January 1 of the respective calendar year or from the day of its payment in the respective calendar year, until January 31 of the following calendar year,

- the 365-day motorway vignette is valid for 365 days, including the day determined by the user on the designated road sections,

- the 30-day motorway vignette is valid for 30 days, including the determined day,

- the 10-day motorway vignette is valid for 10 days, including the determined day.

- the one-day motorway vignette is valid until 24:00 on the day determined by the user on the designated sections of the motorways.

The day that the user specifies for use on the designated motorway sections is the day when the motorway vignette becomes valid. In the case of a one-day motorway vignette, it is also the only day of its validity.

If a 30-day or 10-day validity motorway vignette is purchased in December, it is also valid in January of the following year until the expiration of its validity period.

Payment of the motorway vignette

Designated road sections marked with traffic signs can be used in accordance with the Act upon payment of the motorway vignette fee for their use. The amount of the fee is determined in the government regulation of the Slovak Republic No. 410/2014 Coll., which establishes the amount of the motorway vignette fee for using designated sections of motorways and expressways in force (hereinafter also referred to as the "Government Regulation").

The above facts are displayed in the following tabular summaries, which illustrate the required type and number of paid highway vignettes depending on the vehicle category and the maximum permissible total weight of the vehicle, or the maximum permissible weight of the vehicle combination (the maximum permissible total weight of the vehicle/maximum permissible weight of the vehicle combination is determined by the information provided in section 1 of the Vehicle Registration Certificate):

This means that the obligation to purchase a motorway vignette for using selected sections of motorways and expressways applies exclusively to the main vehicle.
